Story Idea

My story will take place in northern Maine. It will follow the life of a logger who seems to follow the same routine religiously. Everyday he logs, eats, and plays with his dog. But what the reader wont know until later in the story is that he is also a cereal killer who regularly kills hikers that he fins on a popular trail in the woods. I am going to use his logging as a way to symbolize the killings while not directly saying that he is doing it until near the end.

  1. This sounds like it could be wicked sweet! Maybe to make it more realistic you could pick a certain part of a hike, one that's real too. Maybe a part on the AT, then there can be suspicion about traveling through that specific part! Just an idea, this sounds sweet.

    1. ...Don't do that! I'll never hike the Appalachian again.

  5. I have a great serial killer story I will find and copy for you, also by Breece D'J Pancake, who we read in class. Just make sure he has a reason for what he does. I'd go pretty heavy on the backstory with this piece.

  6. Here's an old hiking story that I heard through a friend. It seems appropriate for this piece:

A friend of a friend (so you know that this is a legit story from the start hah) was hiking the AT and ran into another girl who was hiking down from the mountain with her dog, as my friend's friend (we'll call her Carla, to keep it from getting confusing) was going up. The girl with the dog seemed experienced, and it seemed strange to Carla that this girl would be giving up on the hike. Thus out of curiosity, Carla asked her why she was leaving the AT. The girl responded with a story about how she had once felt like she was safe, since she'd been hiking alone for the past few week, and also because she had her dog with her. But apparently, within the past few nights, her dog would wake up and start barking into the woods. For the first few nights this girl had just assumed it was a large animal, that eventually got scared away by the dog. But the night before she began her decent from the mountain, her dog barked an excessive amount. That morning as she left her tent, she saw a video camera outside by her fire. After questioning its presence, she turned it on to find hours of footage of her sleeping in her tent; footage that had obviously been filmed by some creepy person who had stalked her for the past few nights

So yeah, I figured that might insight some ideas. Or just prevent anyone from ever hiking again.
