second story idea

Sorry for the late post but my idea about the story; a middle aged failed screen writer in Los Angles working in a local restaurant as a waiter hates where his life is going but can not do anything about it because he believes that he will finally get his big break on his new script he has been writing.  The story will starts around the time he is getting the letters back from all of the agencies he had sent his work to. After the final letter rejecting his work he goes on a twisted, and drug induced journey to find what truly makes him happy, bringing him to the brink of existence and back, creating a muse which he will be able to work off of for a his new script.

  1. This idea is very interesting to me, but I think you have a lot of thinking of what this journey is going to entail. There are so many possibilities that this failed screen writer could go through. I like the thought of this journey creating maybe a selling script though.

  2. I think this is a great start. Is a drug trip too easy, though? Could it be an adventure, or a series of mishaps that he struggles to rise from, but instead give him fodder for his script? I think Doug has a good point, be very purposeful in what you write about his journey. Otherwise, I look forward to reading.

  3. Interesting idea. I am always attracted to stories about existential crises. I agree with Caro and Doug though, perhaps a drug induced journey may be too easy. Existential breakdowns can occur anywhere and anytime, and can cause a distorted reality even without drugs. It could be interesting to see him lose his mind at the restaurant, or out at his mailbox. Also, how his character continues on and finds meaning in his life, especially after an emotionally compromising event, could really make for a good story.

  4. I like this idea, especially with that of the muse. Do you have an idea of what/who will be his grounding perspective/muse?
