I feel rather like a magician getting ahead of himself. I guess I'll just say *Spoiler Alert* and dive right in. So here's what I'm thinking… Very basically: A guy and a
girl, nameless at this point, live together. Possibly with a larger group of
friends. We'll call the guy Y and the girl X for now. X and Y are just friends.
Y's parents are coming over for a visit (surprise visit?) from rather far away.
Unbeknownst to X, Y has been telling his parents that they are a couple. A very
involved couple. And so Y must now undergo an elaborate charade so as to
perpetuate his lie. A classic, basic skeleton. I think I can work with it and
hopefully get some good humor, romance, drama and all sorts of other good stuff
out of it. I'm thinking there'll be a scene involving a meal (I'm thinking
dinner), and possibly a scene involving a picnic? I'd like to work a paddle
boat in there somewhere. I have a few endings already in mind… but I won't go
into detail now. Like I said, a rather basic skeleton, but I think I can make it into something wholly my own. My one concern at this point is that
it is seemingly too outlandish a setup. I hope it's not too much like a sitcom. With that worry in mind, I do know
people who have tried similar schemes. I think I will just have to be careful
not to take things too far into the realm of the bizarre or the outrageous. My
biggest fear is that it will turn out too campy, but on the other hand I am
confident in my ability to avoid this. I feel like I'm rambling. Basically, I fear this story line lends itself to campiness, but with some effort it could be the foundation for a rather grand story. In any case, as of now, this is my basic
plan.
Mike, I think this sounds like a great initial idea. God speed. Avoid the camp. You know.
